First and foremost, I want to THANK all of our attendees, who traveled from far and wide to be with us at SAHMS this year. We sometimes take for granted what dedication is required to prepare a presentation, travel to Winston-Salem, and engage in fruitful conversations with one another. The energy this year was uplifting and I especially am grateful to the many students who brought their dynamic work to share with us.
I also wish to thank those behind the scenes who made this all possible. Dr. Simone Caron, professor of history at WFU, stepped forward last year with an offer to host and they came through spectacularly. Not only was Graylyn a beautiful site, but the generous donations they elicited were much appreciated. To that end, I’m grateful to Dr. Julie Freischlag at the WFU School of Medicine and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, who not only delivered our keynote address but also donated both money and “SWAG” to the conference. I’m also thankful for the support of the WFU Humanities Institute, the Office of the Provost, and the Department of History, especially department chair Raisur Rahman. Finally, my deep appreciation to the planning committee chair, Sarah Halter, for helping keep things together!
I hope to see many familiar faces again this fall when we hold our second virtual conference in the fall. Keep an eye out for details.
Finally, I’m excited to start planning next year’s conference, to be co-hosted by the Eleanor Crowder Bjoring Center for Nursing Historical Inquiry and its director Dominique Tobbell. Dates and details are forthcoming!
We invite you to share your feedback on this year’s conference and to let us know how you’d like to become involved in SAHMS. Please fill out this feedback form to share your thoughts! We have many opportunities for scholars at various stages of their careers and are eager to chat with you about ways to support the organization.
As always, we hope you will continue to stay in touch with us at [email protected] if you ever have questions or suggestions. Safe travels home and we will see you again soon!
